Master the Ability to Teach

Whether you plan to teach in the future or not, developing the skills and ability to teach will strengthen and deepen your own knowledge and experience of yoga.  Guiding a room full of students is vastly different from practicing yourself.  Knowledge of basic anatomy, yoga philosophy and asanas, as well as class design and effective communication skills are essential to become a strong and vibrant yoga teacher.  You will learn the asanas in depth, as well as proper alignment, safe practice and how to avoid injuries.  You will learn how to sequence asanas in a fluid manner and how to use counter poses to provide a balanced and safe class.  You will learn presentation and communications skills that will help you deliver a class in a flowing, interesting and concise manner.  You will learn how to teach a class of different levels of students, keeping all students safe, interested and challenged.

The Business of Yoga

Once you become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through Yoga Alliance, you will want to put your skills to immediate use.  Whether you plan to teach part-time or full-time, or become a private yoga instructor, knowing how to find employment will make your search more effective and fruitful.  You will learn how to identify opportunities to teach yoga.  You will learn how to market yourself to build a following.  You will learn the many environments yoga classes are taught in, and how to tap into those environments.

YogaVeda Policies

To be accepted into the YogaVeda 200-Hour Teacher Training Program students should have at least one year of experience practicing yoga regularly and/or be able to demonstrate competency in a set of basic yoga poses (as determined by Yoga Veda).

Teacher Trainees who successfully complete the course will be able to register with Yoga Alliance and use the 200-hour registry mark and letters R.Y.T. (Registered Yoga Teacher) after their names.  Upon successful completion of the course the teacher trainee will receive a "Certificate of Attainment" from YogaVeda.

To receive a certificate of attainment and apply for Yoga Alliance certification, the student must complete 200 hours of training, 180 of which are contact hours with a qualified teacher.  The student must also demonstrate proficiency through class participation, written assignments and any tests given. The YogaVeda program will include 188 hours of contact instruction, allowing for situations in which the student unavoidably must miss a class.   If necessary, YogaVeda will provide up to 24 hours of class make up time, but this time will be billable to cover the costs of instruction.  The hourly rate will vary from $10 to $25 per hour per student, depending upon number of students attending a make-up session.   Optionally, YogaVeda may assign special projects to students, to make up for missed hours, to demonstrate required competencies. This will be at the discretion of the YogaVeda instructor.

YogaVeda reserves the right to cancel the course due to insufficient registrations.  If the course is canceled due to low enrollment, all money paid to YogaVeda will be fully refunded.

Students who cancel their contract by notifying the school within three business days are entitled to a full refund of all tuition.  Students who withdraw after three business days, but before commencement of classes, are entitled to a full refund of all tuition paid except a cancellation charge of $150.  In the case of students withdrawing after commencement of classes, YogaVeda will retain a cancellation charge of $150 plus a percentage of tuition, based on the percentage of contract hours taught and the date on which YogaVeda receives notice of the student's intention to discontinue the training program.
